UNMC residents excel on internal medicine boards

For the fifth straight year, residents of UNMC’s department of internal
medicine have recorded a 100 percent pass rate on the Internal Medicine
Boards.

“Obviously, we are extremely pleased,” said James O’Dell, M.D., director for the internal medicine residency program. “This ranks us with a select group of programs at the top of the national list. There are no other programs in our region which have achieved such success.”

According to the American Board of Internal Medicine, 87 percent of the
7,074 residents who took the 2002 exam received passing marks.

“We’re proud of our residents, not only for the way they perform on exams,
but for the type of people they are,” O’Dell said. “Our residents have a
tremendous spirit of cooperation.”

Members of UNMC’s class include (hometown): Travis Archuleta (Hays, Kansas); Dawn Hagen (Yankton, S.D.); Scott Heasty (Beauford, S.C.); Matthew Hrnicek (Grand Island); Ravishanar Kalaga (Nellore, India); Alan Kricsfeld (Omaha); Todd Kumm (North Platte); Bryce Lund (Bassett); Tarek Mahrous (Cairo, Egypt); Jason Potts (Juniata); Frances Radkey (Chicago Heights, Ill.); Stacey Safford (Bossier City, La.); Lance Schupbach (Yankton, S.D.); and David Weeks (Auburn).
