A note about campus emergency alerts

Many employees did not receive an emergency alert crawler notice on their computer screens during an incident on Friday in which there were reports of an armed person on campus.

Alert connections

The computer notification system is used to send emergency alerts to UNMC network connected computers. Computers connected to The Nebraska Medical Center network will soon be added to this system.

If you were among the employees who didn’t receive the crawler notices:
  • Please take this survey;
  • If above link does not work, cut and paste this address, “http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7W37ZBF” into your browser.

The survey is similar to one distributed to the campus on June 2. Employees who did not receive Friday’s crawler notice are urged to take the survey even if they:

  • Have already reported the problem; and/or
  • Completed the survey on June 2.

Campus safety, security and information technology officials are working to ensure all employees receive notification about potentially dangerous situations on campus.

Officials from UNMC, UNMC Physicians, The Nebraska Medical Center and Clarkson College, in conjunction with the Omaha Police Department, have already begun to review Friday’s event, Campus Safety Manager John Hauser said.

Changes will be made to procedures based on information from the survey and review of Friday’s findings, Hauser said.
