Applications sought for College of Nursing dean

UNMC is seeking applications and nominations for the position of dean of the College of Nursing. Ada Lindsey, Ph.D., has announced plans to retire from the position, effective July 31, 2003.

“Dr. Lindsey has been an excellent dean and has strengthened the college during her eight years of leadership,” said Mary Haven, associate dean of UNMC’s School of Allied Health Professions and chairwoman of the search committee. “With the search we hope to build on the college’s traditions of excellence in teaching, distance learning, research and outreach to underserved populations. The College of Nursing has been fortunate to have a history of strong deans and our committee is determined to find capable candidates who will continue to advance its mission.”

Ideal candidates

The College of Nursing dean reports to the chancellor and is responsible for providing leadership in planning, organizing and securing the necessary resources to accomplish the goals and objectives of the college. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong leadership, administrative, financial and communication skills;
  • A commitment to recruit diverse faculty and students;
  • The ability to foster academic scholarship;
  • An appreciation for the importance of information technology and distance learning;
  • Experience in leading change and strategic planning;
  • Integrity, trustworthiness and reputation for honesty;
  • A master’s degree in nursing and an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field;
  • Experience in undergraduate and graduate nursing education;
  • Eligibility for licensure in the state of Nebraska; and
  • An established record of scholarship.
