New phone number for OUCH program

Heath-care workers with UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC Physicians are at risk of blood and body fluid exposures on a daily basis.

Numbers to Know

The following is a list of numbers available to report a blood borne pathogen exposure:

For this reason, the OUCH Program was created several years ago to expedite the process in the case of a blood borne pathogen exposure.

Beginning Thursday, the Medical Communication Center will provide the initial response when an employee has experienced a blood borne pathogen exposure and has contacted the OUCH pager system.

With this new process, employees may still utilize the OUCH pager system at 888-OUCH (6824), direct dial 559-OUCH or report to Employee Health during clinic hours.

All initial calls will be answered 24/7 by a medical call center customer service specialist and directed to a registered nurse to gather pertinent information and direct immediate care.

Employee Health will continue to provide follow up on all reported occupational blood borne pathogen exposures.
