Roy Pearson, shown here with his wife, Mary, a member of the UNMC Board of Counselors and supporter of UNMC research, died Saturday. He was 91.
Pearson — a World War II veteran who owned and operated K-K Appliance Co., a propane gas company, for 45 years — was a strong supporter of UNMC’s research into macular degeneration.

He and his wife, Mary, donated $200,000 to the University of Nebraska Foundation to support the research of UNMC’s Iqbal Ahmad, Ph.D.

“Roy Pearson was a great humanitarian and a champion of biomedical research,” Dr. Ahmad said. “He would keep in touch with our progress and keep us going with his encouragement. I got to know him quite well and understood why his generation is called the greatest.”
