Innovation Week starts Monday — learn how UNeMed can help you

“We provide a wide range of services that many investigators may not realize we offer,” said Michael Dixon, Ph.D., president of UNeMed, UNMC’s technology commercialization arm. “Many investigators may be excited to see all the ways we can help them advance and commercialize their research.”

Below is a schedule of the week’s events.












Win an iPad!



Attend one of the Oct. 4-5 Innovation Week events or stop by the UNeMed offices during Innovation Week to register to win an iPad. The winner of the iPad will be announced at the Innovation Awards Ceremony on Oct. 7. You must be present at the ceremony to win the iPad.

UNeMed has an office in the Durham Research Center on the first floor and on the third floor of Annex 14.




Monday, Oct. 4
  • 8 a.m. — Innovation week kicks off with a breakfast in the Durham Research Center Atrium. Meet the UNeMed staff and get a free T-shirt and espresso drink from Jo-On-The-Go Espresso Bar; and
  • 6 p.m. — A ‘Science on Tap’ event at the Kaneko Center (1111 Jones St.) will focus on the “Portraits of Care” exhibit by former UNMC artist-in-residence Mark Gilbert. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be sponsored by UNeMed. RSVPs are required to unemed@unmc.edu.

Tuesday, Oct. 5

  • 1 p.m. — Dr. David M. Brown of miRNA Therapeutics will discuss an innovative clinical research endeavor between his organization and UNMC in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater.

Thursday, Oct. 7

  • 4 p.m. — The 2010 Innovation Awards Ceremony and Reception will be held in the Durham Research Center Auditorium and atrium.

Friday, Oct. 8

  • 9 a.m. — Joe Runge, business and development manager at UNeMed, will present “Technology Transfer at the VA” in the Education Conference Room at the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System.
