The senator was impressed by the center and its technology and grateful for UNMC and the private donors who had the foresight to create such a facility to help the state face its shortage of nurses.

“The nursing shortage is a very real problem and it’s great that UNMC now has this new facility to help confront this issue,” Johanns said. “It’s a beautiful building.”

During his tour, Johanns saw the center’s simulation labs, classrooms and also met with college leaders and students.

“I was glad Sen. Johanns took the time to visit the center,” said Sarah Thompson, Ph.D., professor and associate dean for academic programs in the College of Nursing, who helped lead Johanns on his tour. “We appreciate his interest in nursing issues and we want to thank him for joining the Senate Nursing Caucus.”
