Informational cost transfer training session Jan. 28

Does your job require you to keep up with the newest research regulations? Do you find yourself wondering if you have all the facts? Are you responsible for understanding the financial components of research? Are you responsible for transferring costs on research projects? If you answered yes, this training opportunity is for you. The Office of Budget and Analysis is hosting a training session Tuesday, Jan. 28, about the requirements of cost transfers for the campus community.

Federal regulations require institutions to create policies and procedures that support federal cost accounting standards in research. To increase compliance with federal regulations, UNMC administration is committed to offering training opportunities. The informational training session is designed to:

  • inform the audience of Federal guidelines regarding cost transfers;
  • educate the audience on the UNMC cost transfer policy;
  • identify correct and incorrect cost transfer circumstances; and
  • explain the future of cost transfers at UNMC (e.g., procedure and form).

The session is designed for all employees involved in research at UNMC. The first 15 minutes will be an introduction to cost transfers that faculty, grant administrators and grant accountants will find informational and useful in completion of their responsibilities. The remaining time will be designed specifically for grant administrators and grant accountants. The remaining session will be spent reviewing cost transfers in greater depth, including examples of when a cost transfer is necessary and circumstances in which cost transfers should not occur.

To accommodate as many people as possible, participants may choose to attend a morning (9 to 11 a.m.) or afternoon (1 to 3 p.m.) session in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater. To register, complete the on-line form by Jan. 20. If you have questions contact Elizabeth Fowlkes at 559-5222 or efowlkes@unmc.edu.
