Spirit Week 2010 – Spirit Challenge tips

Some things to keep in mind as you prepare for Friday’s Spirit Challenge, which starts at noon in the Sorrell Center’s Truhlsen Campus Events Center.

Today’s events

  • Employees and students get free admission to the campus ice rink and hot cocoa from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Skate rental is $3.
  • The Soup Revolution truck will be outside by rink. CASH ONLY!
  • The UNMC Musical Society will present a holiday concert at noon in the Sorrell Center, Room 2010. Holiday cookies will be provided.

  • Talent is welcome, but not required — This is a spirit challenge, not a talent show. Did Dr. Howard Fox need talent to paint the secondary icon on his arms during the Push-Ups for Haiti event?
  • Brevity is a virtue — You only have two minutes and you don’t need to use it all.
  • Recruit supporters — Judging is based on applause. If you get enough people to clap for you, you win the grand prize — a $30 gift card for a pizza party. Maybe bribe coworkers and students with the promise of free pizza if they clap for you.
  • Register now! — Only ten teams will get a chance to compete so sign up today.

And as Spirit Week continues, remember:

  • If you find the UNMC secondary icon embedded in a UNMC Today story this week, send an e-mail to spiritweek@unmc.edu. If you’re the first to respond, you’ll receive a free T-shirt. This contest will be held every day this week.
  • Submit photos for the UNMC Photo Contest.
  • Purchase discounted UNMC apparel at the UNMC Bookstore or at Spirit Week activities.
