Lookin’ at U – Peter Pellerito

Quick, think of five things others should know about you.

That’s the theme behind a series in UNMC Today called “Lookin’ at U.”

Each Thursday, we will randomly select a medical center employee to feature.

This week, we feature Peter Pellerito, fitness specialist in the Center for Healthy Living.

Here, in his own words, are five fun facts about Peter:

  • I was a 200 pound kid in junior high. I started jogging in high school and graduated at 150 pounds. Today, I’m a lot closer to 200 pounds than 150 pounds.

  • I moved here in 1977 from Buffalo, N.Y. They get more snow than we do, but Omaha winters are much colder and the summers here also are much warmer.

  • I enjoy doing things that challenge and even scare me a little bit. On my budget, I have to settle for cheap thrills. Most winters, I head to Colorado to go up a 14,000-foot peak or two. This season, I’ll do Pikes Peak.

  • I am on a constant search for pleasure and purpose in my life. I believe that physical activity can actually be a great potential source of both.

  • Some people think that I don’t own any long pants. I do. I just don’t wear them very often.
