Happy second birthday Science Cafe!

Tonight UNMC’s William Lydiatt, M.D., will discuss a possible link between risky behavior and head and neck cancer at the Omaha Science Cafe.

Start time tonight

Dr. Lydiatt’s Science Cafe presentation starts at 7 p.m. at The Slowdown. The Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures will provide pizza for the first 50 in attendance.

The event will mark the second anniversary of the Science Cafe series, which is an effort by UNMC, Bio Nebraska and the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures to raise science literacy among young adults.

“As someone who has been a Science Cafe speaker and an audience member, I think a large part of the success of the Science Cafe is due to the setting and atmosphere,” said Donald Klepser, Ph.D., assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy Department of Pharmacy Practice. “The opportunity to interact with an audience in an informal setting over a couple of drinks is not something most scientists get to do very often.

“It is just a lot of fun to talk with ‘real’ people who are interested in what you do, and I think that comes through to those in attendance.”

I have attended most of the Omaha Science Cafes and enjoyed them all. I take 2 friends along and they look forward to each new one, also. We really appreciate the free pizza, too. Thanks to the Nebraska Coalition for Life Saving Cures.
