Below is a list of achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students.

Randeep Jawa, M.D.,, assistant professor of surgery, has been elected vice chairman for Nebraska for the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.(EDITOR’S NOTE: This is a correction of an item from last week’s UNMC for the record that incorrectly listed David W. Mercer, M.D., as being elected vice chairman of the American Cancer Society’s Committee on Trauma.)

Jessica Hutter-Saunders was awarded the 2011 J. Stephen Fink, M.D., Ph.D. Prize from the American Society for Experimental Neurotherapeutics (ASENT). Saunders presented the best scientific abstract at the ASENT meeting titled “immunoregulation in Parkinson’s Disease” and competed against an international group of students and fellows.

Pat Hageman, Ph.D., professor and former program director of physical therapy education in the School of Allied Health Professions, has been named to a three-year term on a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) external advisory committee by Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. The committee promotes a diverse health care workforce and high-quality, interprofessional health care to such underserved areas as rural communities. Dr. Hageman is the only Nebraskan on the 21-member committee.
