Prepare to tell your tall tale today

Jack and the Beanstalk, Pecos Bill and Paul Bunyan – these are the part of the foundation of American folklore. And they are all lies. Good stories, but lies.

Stories stretched into tall tales are what we’re looking for at today’s Liar’s Contest. The contest will take up the first part of the regular Tuesday Talent event at noon in the Eppley Amphitheater.

picture disc. So, prepare a five-minute, work-appropriate, tall tale to tell at the contest, which will be judged by three respected UNMC faculty members — a librarian, a lawyer and a psychiatrist, who have read them all, told them all and heard them all.

  • Rick Spellman, J.D., associate general counsel health sciences; and

Stories will be judged on technique, originality and story development — a good beginning, middle and end.

The second part of the program will feature Fran Higgins, administrative associate in the School of Allied Health Professions. In observance of St. Patrick’s Day, she will sing Irish songs and encourage a sing-a-long.

So, come and tell a tall tale, sing some Irish songs or just listen at today’s Talent Tuesday.
