“The ads allow us to capture both a local and national audience, and capitalize on the fantastic placement UNMC has as the nation’s top seven medical center in primary care,” said Renee Fry, J.D., director of UNMC Public Relations. “This is an honor in which we take great pride, because it represents not only the fantastic work that we’re doing for Nebraskans, but also that our peers are recognizing our work on a national scale.”

Traditionally, primary care has been associated with family physicians, general internal medicine, general pediatricians and general gynecologists, but has expanded over several years — and will continue to do so with health care reform — to include pharmacists, allied health workers, public health officials, high-level nurses and others professions.

“The entire campus community should rightfully take ownership of this ranking,” Fry said.

In addition to the primary care ranking, UNMC also ranked:

  • 66th in research;
  • 15th in rural medicine;
  • 16th for the School of Allied Health Professions’ physician assistant program; and
  • 36th for the College of Nursing’s master’s degree program.
