Dr. Lane leads local diabetes chapter

James Lane, M.D., assistant professor in the diabetes, endocrinology & metabolism section of the internal medicine department, is serving as president of the Heartland Chapter of the American Diabetes Association. He has served as president since 2002.

Recently, Dr. Lane hosted an informational meeting at UNMC for several board members from the Heartland Chapter of the American Diabetes Association. The purpose of the meeting was to show the board members the diabetes research that is being done at UNMC. The group toured a UNMC research lab and heard several presentations in the UNMC Clinical Research Center. The presenters included Jennifer Larsen, M.D., professor in the diabetes, endocrinology & metabolism section of the internal medicine department, and R. Brian Stevens, M.D., assistant professor in the department of surgery.

The Heartland Chapter of the American Diabetes Association will hold a major fund-raising event on Oct. 5 when America’s Walk for Diabetes takes place around the country. In Omaha, the walk will take place at Lake Zorinsky. Dr. Stevens will serve as walk chairman and Dr. Lane will serve as vice chairman.
