College of Public Health launches electronic newsletter

The river waters are rising, but eventually they’ll recede.

What you should know about flood safety, preparedness and cleanup is outlined in stories featured in the College of Public Health’s new electronic newsletter, GroundBreaker.

The newsletter is found in News and Events on the College of Public Health’s webpage.

The monthly newsletter, launched in May, will increase the public’s awareness of faculty, students, research and community outreach activities, said Ayman El-Mohandes, M.B.B.Ch., M.D., M.P.H., dean of the College of Public Health. Also featured are commentary about national public health news stories and upcoming events at the college.

In this issue, Phil Smith, M.D., professor of epidemiology, and Kristin Watkins, Center for Preparedness Education, write about issues related to drowning, injuries, animals and insects, cleanup, mold and environmental concerns.

Water damage, cleanup and your health is addressed in an article by Shawn Gibbs, Ph.D., associate professor of environmental, agricultural and occupational health.
