Foundation grants support research collaboration in China, India

International research programs at UNMC focused on diabetes, environmental health factors and lymphoma have received support through $250,000 in grant awards from the University of Nebraska Foundation.

The grants support UNMC’s substantial international programs, said Chancellor Harold Maurer, M.D., who noted that the awards:

  • Enable research teams to conduct pilot studies through collaboration with institutions and colleagues in China and India; and
  • Prepare UNMC to apply to the National Institutes of Health for support of these studies.

UNMC received the following awards:

  • $50,000 to support first-year research needed for a collaborative study of genetic and immunological features associated with Type 1 or insulin-dependent diabetes in India.
  • $100,000 to support research on the effects of environmental toxins on the health of mothers and infants in rural areas of India.
  • $100,000 to support an ongoing and collaborative research program between UNMC and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which is a leader in genetics research.
