UNMC/NHS develop plans for major incidents

UNMC and NHS leaders have developed a campus plan to respond appropriately to a number of scenarios from war to a terrorist attack here or abroad. The Incident Management Plan was developed in response to the potential for American engagement in a war in the Middle East and to terrorist events since Sept. 11, 2001.

In the event of a major incident, the plan preserves as much as possible the normal educational, patient-care and research functions at UNMC and NHS. Meanwhile, faculty, staff and students at UNMC and NHS are being reminded to:

  • Wear their ID badges in a visible location at all times while on campus.

  • Increase monitoring of the UNMC/NHS campus and report any unusual or suspicious activity to campus security.

  • Secure all unoccupied areas including offices and labs.

  • Be aware of ITS policies and procedures regarding security of passwords and the use of equipment and facilities. Employees also should appropriately back up files containing critical data and other information.

UNMC and NHS leaders have additional plans in place if world events escalate to war or a major national, regional or local incident occurs. Details would be made available at that time.
