Employees ask how to contact senators

Since the announcement of budget cuts by the university, many UNMC employees have been asking how they can contact state legislators.

“This is an important time for employees to contact their senators, particularly those members on the appropriations and revenue committees,” said Bob Bartee, executive assistant to the chancellor. “It’s important that senators hear from citizens about the need to protect higher education during these difficult economic times. However, employees cannot use University resources (phone, computer, letterhead) to do so.”

Members of the Appropriations and Revenue committees currently are deliberating the level of funding they will propose to the full legislature for debate. Anyone interested in contacting members of the committees are encouraged to do so within the next 10 days. It is not necessary that individuals identify themselves as university employees.

“If employees concur, it would be helpful to inform senators of their support for enhanced revenue to avoid draconian cuts to the university,” Bartee said.
