Sparks scholarship deadline is Feb. 28

A $1,000 scholarship awaits an outstanding student at the University of Nebraska who majors in a health promotion and disease prevention field.

Applications will be accepted until Feb. 28 for the Robert D. Sparks, M.D. Pre-Professional Student Scholarship in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. The $1,000 scholarship will go to an outstanding student at the University of Nebraska who majors in a health promotion and disease prevention field.

Applications will be accepted until Feb. 28 for the Robert D. Sparks, M.D. Pre-Professional Student Scholarship in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. Dr. Robert Sparks is a former chancellor at UNMC who established a scholarship through the University of Nebraska Foundation.

The recipient will be recognized at UNMC’s College of Public Health Annual Awards Event on April 20.

Undergraduate students must be in good academic standing, have expressed an interest in a career addressing health promotion and disease prevention and are majoring in, but not limited to, such fields as:

  • Undergraduate health professions;
  • Community health education;
  • Nutrition;
  • Psychology;
  • Biology, and;
  • Exercise physiology.

Students should have a career plan that is focused on education, research, and/or practice, with particular attention to the needs of Nebraska and its citizens. Scholarship award funds will be applied toward tuition and fees in the subsequent academic year.
