NHS/UNMC cycling team off to fast start

The NHS/UNMC Cycling rode to a 1-2-3-4 finish in the first major event of the 2003 Nebraska bicycle road racing season.

Chris Spence, the reigning state road champion, won the 55-mile Category I-II-III race on April 12 at Branched Oak State Park near Lincoln. Teammates Joe McWilliams, Marco Vasquez and Darin Schlake filled the other top four placings, while NHS/UNMC’s Marie Neville took top honors in the 44-mile women’s race.

The team followed its success with a 1-2 finish by Ian Robertson and McWilliams on April 13 at the Blues Bike Rack Pioneers Criterium in Pioneers Park.

The NHS/UNMC cycling team will be in action Saturday, April 26 at the Haymarket Park Criterium in Lincoln.
