UNeMed can help investigators commercialize research tools

Has your lab developed something required for an important experiment and then left the valued item stored in a freezer where it still lays long forgotten?

You are not alone! Forgotten research tools are a common occurrence in research laboratories.

Before you decide to dispose of your biological materials, consider that your research tools may have significant value.

Cell lines and other biological materials can be crucial drug discovery tools. These research tools could help make important discoveries and advance scientific understanding.

In addition, research tools could potentially be licensed to provide an additional source of funds for research.

One of UNeMed’s main goals is the transfer of technology from the research lab to the commercial sector. Through the comercialization of research tools, UNeMed can help researchers acquire additional funds to support their work.

How: The materials can be transferred under a limited-use license agreement in exchange for an upfront payment, research support and, depending on the agreement, a percentage of product sales.

What: Examples of research tools with commercialization potential include:

  • Cell lines;
  • Antibodies;
  • Plasmids;
  • Vectors;
  • Compounds;
  • Animal models; and
  • Any other material that may be shared under a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA).

Researchers interested in commercializing their research tools are encouraged to contact UNeMed’s Matt Boehm, Ph.D. at 402-559-2166 or mboehm@unmc.edu to learn more.
