Describe your research focus in three words or less:

Farmworker well-being

Why is research important in the world today?

We must be continuous learners. Research helps us to appreciate the ever-evolving complexity of our world. However, collaboration is key. By using a team science approach and working together, we can recognize issues, understand context and find solutions that are responsive and relevant. We spur innovation, gain knowledge and drive social progress.

My research will make a difference because:

Farmworkers are an essential yet often-invisible workforce. My research seeks to explore opportunities to keep farmworkers healthy, happy and safe, both on and off the job. My research portfolio is particularly important for a state like Nebraska where one in four jobs are related to agriculture. Promoting the well-being of this workforce can foster vitality and productivity of this sector, transforming individuals, families and communities. I feel blessed because I have the opportunity to show how much we care about rural people and places by meeting them where they are at, connecting existing resources and collectively envisioning possibilities.

The best advice I’ve ever received is:

When you choose to do something, always do your best. Be intentional about your success – put in the work, be persistent, pay it forward for others and never forget where you came from.

Three things you may not know about me are:

  • I have four kids.
  • I am a competitive figure skater.
  • I love to ride horses.
