Applications are being accepted for UNMC’s next dean of graduate studies.
UNMC Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, said the search committee will identify the best leader within the University of Nebraska system to advance the UNMC Graduate Studies mission and vision.

The search committee, led by Ken Bayles, PhD, UNMC’s vice chancellor for research, will advise the UNMC Office of the Chancellor on potential candidates.
Historically, the dean of graduate studies’ responsibilities have been part of the vice chancellor for academic affairs’ role. With this search, they will be established as a separate position and provide leadership for graduate student recruitment, admissions, enrollment, retention, degree completion, student support services and professional development initiatives.
“UNMC Graduate Studies has experienced significant growth over the past decade, and having a dedicated dean ensures continued attention to not only the needs of the students, but also the faculty and staff who support them,” Dr. Davies said.
With more than 700 students, UNMC Graduate Studies offers advanced instruction leading to Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in fields ranging from basic biomedical sciences to public health to patient-oriented research. Among all UNMC graduate students, 71% of students are enrolled in PhD programs.
