Center for Healthy Living offers THRIVE wellness challenge

The Center for Healthy Living is helping the UNMC campus THRIVE (Transforming Health and daily Routines by Inspiring Vitality in Everyone) with another free wellness challenge from Oct. 12-Nov. 22. Participants can participate in a traditional six-week walking challenge or in the THRIVE+ walking with stairs challenge for those looking to increase intensity and build strength.

“The THRIVE Challenge is a great way to add more movement to your day without having to spend hours in the gym,” said Kristal Cavanaugh, Center for Healthy Living fitness coordinator. “This challenge is designed to make physical activity accessible and realistic for busy schedules. Many people think they need a 45-minute workout to improve their health, but the reality is that even a 10- to 20-minute walk can add up to big health benefits over time.”

The challenge is free and open to members of the UNMC and Nebraska Medicine community, which includes students, employees and members of the Center for Healthy Living. Participants do not need to be members to join the challenge.

Registration for the THRIVE challenge is on the Center for Healthy Living website. When signing up, participants choose their plan and download the appropriate challenge tracker. No special equipment is needed, and the challenge is designed to be done in day or work clothes.

Last April, 216 people participated in the THRIVE challenge. The Center for Healthy Living is hoping to exceed last spring’s participation totals.

At the end of the challenge, participants can submit their completed challenge sheets to the Center for Healthy Living front desk by Nov. 22 to be eligible for the prize drawing.
