Wilson lecturer to present literary view of 19th century medicine
The 19th century gave birth to some of the most startling advances in medical history. Lilian Furst, Ph.D., Marcel Bataillon Professor of Comparative Literature, Emerita, at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, said one can get a vivid picture of the impact of these advances by reading the century’s literature. Painting just such a picture will be what Dr. Furst aims to do when she presents the first Wilson lecture on Thursday, Oct. 4.

Hospital, UNMC Physicians plan west Omaha cancer center
Responding to the health care needs of rapidly growing communities in west Omaha and western Douglas County, The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC Physicians will open a new outpatient Clinical Cancer Center next year on the southeast corner of 180th Street and West Dodge Road, just west of the Village Pointe shopping area.

United Front — Write-in agencies help personalize giving
Camille O’Neill is captivating, cheerful and visually curious. At age 3, she plunks letters on her Braille typewriter, laughs easily and pulls new toys close to study them intently — all the while singing, “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. …” Camille’s parents, Bill and Jen O’Neill, are grateful for the support they’ve received from a local, non-profit agency that helps children with visual impairments. Now, through the United Way campaign, they are able to say thanks by designating the Nebraska Foundation for Visually Impaired Children (NFVIC) as one of their United Way charities.

A star may have been born Saturday during the UNMC College of Pharmacy’s first Omaha’s Got Talent contest. The event brought out some of Omaha’s most talented performers who may someday be on Broadway or in Hollywood.
