Teaching and Research Opportunities
The postgraduate educational programs in the Department of Pathology and Microbiology consistently strive to improve the quality and depth of instruction that is provided to our trainees. The following is a list of program improvement projects that are underway for this academic year:
- Development of an online electron microscopy course
- Expanding resident teaching opportunities including allied health and high school opportunities (ongoing)
- Clinical Pathology case conference website
- Implementation of voice recognition for the surgical pathology rotations
- Improve milestone data reporting
- Advocacy Journal Club which is an informal discussion off campus to discuss laboratory regulations
Residents take part in See, Test and Treat, an initiative from the College of American Pathologists and the Department of Pathology and Microbiology to offer same-day cytopathology services to medically underserved areas in our community. Ana Yuil-Valdes, MD, Assistant Professor within our department is the lead pathologist and is passionate about access to care and this initiative in particular.
