A new career training platform available to students is completely online and self-paced.

UNMC Graduate Studies has partnered with an online career training platform, Beyond the Professoriate to provide more career development resources for graduate students.

The Office of Graduate Studies’ Beyond the Professoriate Web page includes a video tutorial on using the online career training platform.

Beyond the Prof provides two types of career development resources. First, it is a resource to help answer the question, “What can I do with my PhD?”

Karen Gould, PhD, assistant dean for graduate student success, said: “Beyond the Prof is a platform for graduate students to explore careers options through a video library where students can watch interviews with individuals with an MS or PhD who are working in a wide range of careers and sectors, including academic, government, higher ed, industry, and non-profit.”

The second purpose of the platform is to provide graduate students with resources to help them through each stage of their job search. Dr. Gould notes that “Beyond the Prof has a structured career planning curriculum that includes video lessons, workbooks, and assessments. Beyond the Prof also features webinars, online conferences, and certification for professional development activities. Plus, it’s all online and self-paced, so students can access the resources anytime and as they need them.”

Students can log on to Beyond the Professoriate using their UNMC credentials. For more on the platform and how to use it, please see here.

Dr. Gould urges graduate students to explore Beyond the Prof and to provide her with feedback about its value. Please email Dr. Gould at kagould@unmc.edu.
