Graduate Studies dean search enters final phase

Karen Gould, PhD, left, and Matthew Zimmerman, PhD, are finalists for UNMC Graduate Studies dean.

Two finalists have been named for the position of UNMC Graduate Studies dean.

The two candidates – Karen Gould, PhD, and Matthew Zimmerman, PhD – will present their visions to the campus community during public forums in mid-November. The position historically has been part of the vice chancellor for academic affairs’ role but will now be a separate position.

Dr. Gould is interim dean of UNMC Graduate Studies, deputy research officer in UNMC Academic Affairs and a professor and vice chair for faculty development in the UNMC Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Anatomy. She joined UNMC in 1999.

Dr. Zimmerman is a professor and vice chair of education in the UNMC Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology and director of two graduate programs – the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences and the Master of Science in Medical Physiology Program. He also directs the Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Core at UNMC. He joined UNMC in 2007.

The campus community is invited to attend the following public forums:

Dr. Gould – Friday, Nov. 13

Dr. Zimmerman – Tuesday, Nov. 17

The Graduate Studies search committee, which advises the UNMC Office of the Chancellor, is chaired by Ken Bayles, PhD, UNMC’s vice chancellor for research.
