Proud To Play A Part Initiative kicks off

Katie Eastman doesn’t mince words when talking about the med center.

“I’d recommend this place to anyone,” says the mother of two who was successfully treated for chronic pancreatitis at The Nebraska Medical Center last fall.

She calls the med center team who treated her – amazing.

Employees have the opportunity to express their pride through a new initiative – I’m Proud To Play A Part.
When Omahan Chris Pilcher-Huerter was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2004, she wanted to find the top treatment center for lymphoma. She chose a UNMC physician.

“I had the opportunity and means to go anywhere,” she said. “But after my initial meeting with Dr. Vose and the immediacy the team showed, I chose with confidence to stay right here at home.”

These sentiments are similar to those shared by other patients who praise med center employees for their expertise, compassion and pride in what they do.

Employee campaign

Beginning today, employees have the opportunity to express their pride through a new initiative – I’m Proud To Play A Part.

The four-week campaign brings together employees of UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center, UNMC Physicians and Bellevue Medical Center to support two important on-campus building projects: the Ambulatory Care Center and Cancer Center Campus.

“These facilities are not about new buildings. They represent a quantum difference in how care will be delivered on our campuses,” says UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, MD.

Strong support

Individual donors and foundations along with the state of Nebraska, city of Omaha and Douglas County already have committed private and public funding to the $370 million project.

“Our community and state believe so deeply in the work we do they have pledged to do their part,” says Glenn A. Fosdick, president and CEO of The Nebraska Medical Center. “As employees we now have the opportunity to do the same.”

The monetary goal for the employee initiative is $250,000 with more than $93,000 already committed by the UNMC Chancellor’s Council and The Nebraska Medical Center Operations Council.

Ways to participate

While employees’ financial support is important, participation is the top priority. To play a part, employees have several options:

  • Visit nufoundation.org/proudtoplayapart to contribute online either through payroll deduction, pledge or an outright gift.
  • Return the contribution card delivered in on-campus mail as part of the I’m Proud To Play A Part mailer.
  • Purchase a campaign T-shirt for $10.
  • Add 50 cents or $1 to your purchases in the Nebraska Cafe, Storz Pavilion Cafeteria, Clarkson Cafe, coffee carts and C-Store.
