Cancer Center groundbreaking set for May 7

Leaders of UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Nebraska Foundation invite all enterprise employees to a celebration of the new Comprehensive Cancer Center on Tuesday, May 7.

The groundbreaking ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Emile Street and Durham Research Plaza.

The cancer center project represents one of the largest construction jobs ever in Nebraska. The $370 million project includes a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic, a 98-lab research tower and a hospital tower with 108 beds dedicated to oncology patients. It also includes an ambulatory care strategy based on our vision of a system that will navigate patients through their health care journey with greater focus on wellness and disease prevention and with support throughout the entire continuum of care.

The cancer center, which will be built on the west side of the medical center campus, is expected to be completed in 2016.
