UNMC fighting hunger with canned food donations

The greatest time of need at the Food Bank of the Heartland is the spring. This week the annual campus food drive began. The drive will run April 22 through May 10.

Like past years, UNMC’s campus food drive kicked off with the “Hustle for Hunger” walk/run. Fifty participants from UNMC, Clarkson College and The Nebraska Medical Center completed either the 1.5 or three-mile course.

See event slide show here.

Blue barrels have been placed throughout campus for the drive. According to the Food Bank, food items always in demand include:

  • Macaroni and cheese;
  • Peanut butter;
  • Canned meats;
  • Canned fruit; and
  • Green beans.
