Dr. Berg named director of maternal-fetal medicine

Teresa Berg, M.D., has been named the director for the division of maternal-fetal medicine in the department of obstetrics and gynecology. She takes over for Paul Tomich, M.D., who held the position for 11 years.

“The division of maternal and fetal medicine is fortunate to have Dr. Berg as its new director,” said Carl Smith, M.D., professor and chair of the department of obstetrics and gynecology and president of UNMC Physicians. “She brings knowledge, experience, professionalism and drive that will enable the division to build on the strong work of Dr. Tomich.

“We are thankful for Dr. Tomich’s leadership over the past decade and look forward to his continuation as a full member of the division of MFM.”

Dr. Berg earned her M.D. from the University of South Dakota, serving her residency at UNMC. She completed a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the Medical College of Georgia and was the 2010 recipient of the College of Medicine’s Dean’s Excellence in Clinical Practice Award. She was residency program director of the department from 2002 to 2012.

Dr. Tomich will remain a member of the obstetrics and gynecology faculty.
