UNMC joins discussion on ‘Why the Arts Matter’

UNMC, Nebraskans for the Arts and Nebraska Loves Public Schools present a free screening of “Why the Arts Matter,” followed by a panel discussion, at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 25, at Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater.

The presentation is one of the UNMC-sponsored Nebraska Science Festival activities taking place this weekend.

The film, produced by Nebraska Loves Public Schools (NElovesPS), looks at art programs and educators from around the state that are making a difference in the lives of students. The film spurs the idea that the arts help students express themselves and think creatively, and that their relevance crosses all subjects.

A complimentary lunch will be provided, and registration is requested. To register, email the event coordinator.

Following the film, Howard Fox, M.D., Ph.D., the current UNMC Scientist Laureate, will join panelists from both Nebraskans for the Arts and NElovesPS. Panelists will discuss the bridge between the arts and sciences in work and life, how it became important in their lives and how it plays a constant role in their discoveries and creative problem solving.
