LiveGreen: Earth Week activities set

UNMC LiveGreen and the Energy Advocate team have worked together to mark Earth Week, which runs next week (April 21 to 25). The groups have planned a variety of ways to be involved in Earth Week activities. Detailed information, education and resources are available on the updated campus Earth Week website.

The week’s events include:

Monday April 21
Earth Week kickoff

There will be a major announcement about clinical enterprise sustainability efforts.

Tuesday, April 22

Lunch and Learn: Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo

Noon to 1 p.m.
Durham Research Center Auditorium
Zoo staff will present conservation and sustainability efforts at the zoo as well as efforts by organizations supported by the zoo. Sandwich wraps from GreenBelly will be provided to the first 100 attendees. Attendees can bring their own lunch and are encouraged to bring their own drink (in a reusable container). Bring old prescription eyewear to donate to somebody in need. The event will be livestreamed, as well as videotaped and archived. See sidebar at right for details.

Wednesday April 23
Go to the campus Earth Week website to check out submissions from the ReUse contest and to cast your vote! Contest winners will be announced Friday.

Thursday, April 24
Household electronics recycling and household confidential paper shredding event
7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
UNMC Grounds Building, 4650 Jones St. From Leavenworth turn north onto 45th Street and follow signs in parking lot.
Bring old household electronic equipment and old confidential papers that need to be shredded to this event. There is a small fee associated with some electronic items, visit CampusEarthWeek.com for details. Bring old prescription eyewear to donate to somebody in need.

Friday, April 25
Arbor Day & Tree Campus USA Designation Celebration
Noon to 1:30 p.m.
Student Plaza at the Sorrell Center
A drawing will be held to give away 10 free trees!
Come celebrate Arbor Day and the designation of the campus by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree Campus USA. We’ll plant a tree in the retention pond just east of the ice rink and celebrate with food from Hartland BBQ (cash only). An arborist will be on hand to answer questions about trees and shrubs, and there will be free educational materials, free Blue Bunny ice cream cones, and live music provided by BluesAgent.
