Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Christ the King Church, 654 S. 86th St., for David Gnarra, M.D., associate professor, pediatrics-hematology/oncology, for UNMC and Children’s Hospital & Medical Center. Dr. Gnarra died Jan. 8 at Methodist Hospital of acute respiratory disease syndrome. He was 71.

A pediatric oncologist, Dr. Gnarra helped start Camp CoHoLo (short for courage, hope and love), a summer camp for children battling cancer and blood disorders.

“Dr. Gnarra was an excellent physician who was loved by his patients,” said Bruce Gordon, M.D., UNMC professor of pediatrics hematology/oncology and division chief for pediatrics hematology/oncology for Nebraska Medicine and Children’s Hospital & Medical Center. “He also served as a mentor to many physicians over the years. He will be missed.”
