Arts for Hearts Show, silent auction tops $3,200

The third annual Arts for Hearts Show and Silent Auction in May raised more than $3,200, said Michael Crawford, Ph.D., director of the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s Department of Recreational Therapy.

All proceeds from Arts for Hearts are used to establish an endowment for programs that serve adults with developmental disabilities at the Munroe-Meyer Institute for Genetics and Rehabilitation. Last year, the project raised more than $3,000. The C. Louis Meyer Foundation sponsors the auction.

One of the special enhancements to this year’s program – in addition to the artworks created by the MMI recreation therapy clients – was a special drawing for a 15-piece set of handmade painted glassware donated by Kay Young, one of Nebraska’s most commercially successful artists.

Young, who was present for the two-day event, brought three different styles of her glassware. The winner of the drawing, Elizabeth Thompson, selected her favorite style.
