Tim Widman

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee.
This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Tim Widman
  • Hometown: Omaha
  • No. of years at UNMC: Two months

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
My official title is clinical research outreach coordinator, which entails patient recruitment for clinical trials that take place throughout our organization. I work closely with coordinators and investigators to come up with the most effective plan based on their budgets to increase participation in their trials. This can be done through a multitude of ways, including brochures, flyers, TV/radio/online advertisements, social media posts, direct mail and internal and external database analytics to find potential patients. This is a newly created position for the Clinical Research Center, and I am excited to be able to help research be more successful at UNMC.

Commitment to excellence is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group demonstrate a commitment to excellence at UNMC.

Everyone involved in clinical research is committed to excellence because there are many moving parts happening simultaneously for one individual study. This includes budget negotiations, billing, IRB reviews, writing protocols, patient recruitment, patient treatment, and much more. Every person must be detail oriented and communicate effectively because every part of the process directly effects our patients’ lives.

What is your favorite fall activity?
I enjoy eating too much chili, watching Husker football, and playing Frisbee golf. I absolutely despise raking the ungodly amount of leaves in our yard.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • My wife, Caitlin, also works for Nebraska Medicine in the specialty pharmacy as a patient financial counselor. We also have an eight-month-old son named Henry.
  • I once got a hole-in-one playing Frisbee golf on a par four.
  • I am an avid Creighton basketball fan and try to attend every home game.
