Tiffany Tanner, M.D., is a new faculty member with UNMC’s Department of Surgery in the Division of General Surgery. She specializes in both gastrointestinal/minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. Here’s a brief rundown of her background and the expertise she brings to campus.

What I love most about patient care:
I love the difference I make in people’s lives. Patients come in with a problem. It may be a new problem or one they have had for years. I take them to the OR and make them feel better. I have a special passion for bariatrics. This patient population has struggled with their weight, usually for years. With surgery, we not only are able to help cure many of their co-morbidities but also improve their quality of life.

Degrees:

  • Bachelor of Science, molecular biology/Spanish, Nebraska Wesleyan, Lincoln
  • Doctor of Medicine, UNMC College of Medicine, Omaha
  • Residency, general surgery, UNMC
  • Fellowship, advanced minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, Saint Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.

Board Certification:

  • American Board of Surgery

Professional Societies and Memberships:

  • American College of Surgeons Associate Fellow
  • Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons
  • American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery

Durham Outpatient Center Surgery Clinic, 5th Floor

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I am a twin. My sister is a Ph.D. and does research for St. Jude’s in Memphis.
  • I have studied abroad in England, Mexico and Ecuador.
  • I like to sing in my car and the OR.
