Lookin’ at U – LuAnn Larson

LuAnn Larson

LuAnn Larson

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: LuAnn Larson
  • Hometown: Norfolk, Neb.
  • No. of years at UNMC: 28

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.

I manage the Clinical Research Center and work with the vice chancellor for research office to improve clinical research on our campus.

Working together is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group working together at UNMC.

I absolutely see it every day, several times a day. We work with many departments on campus to make research happen, and everyone is working toward the same goals of keeping our patients safe and getting the best data so that we make the correct conclusions. The most impressive, though, had to be with the Ebola patients who we cared for in the Biocontainment Unit. It was incredible to watch everyone put forth their absolute best and put in such extraordinary effort to make everything come together because we cared about the patient and their families. It made me exceptionally proud to work with all of these people, because I know those attitudes prevail across all areas here at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine.

What is your favorite winter activity?

Skiing (cross country and downhill).

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I was a nurse on a cruise ship once upon a time.
  • I enjoy outdoor sports even though I am nowhere near as athletic as the daughters we raised.
  • I have four gorgeous daughters that make me glow with pride.
