Public Health Week features many activities

A variety of activities have been planned by the College of Public Health Student Association to celebrate National Public Health Week April 4-10.

Adopting the national theme, Healthiest Nation 2030, the students have planned games, exercise, a research conference, campus and community lectures and a wellness walk.

Help College of Public Health students kick off National Public Health Week with a Family Feud-style game day. Free lunch for the first 30 people.

Tai Chi

Tuesday, April 5, 11-11:45 a.m., Ruth & Bill Scott Student Plaza
Relax, relieve stress and learn a new way to exercise with Tai Chi. In case of rain, meet in the second floor atrium of the College of Public Health.

Grand Rounds
Wednesday, April 6, Noon-1 p.m., Maurer Center for Public Health, Room 3013
“Health Equity for U.S. Hispanics/Latinos: Are We Making Progress?” will be presented by Aida Maisonet Giachello, Ph.D., professor of preventive medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. (See sidebar)

Student Research Conference

Wednesday, April 6, 1-3 p.m., Maurer Center for Public Health, third floor commons
Support College of Public Health students and their research endeavors and learn about current public health research. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Wellness Walk

Friday, April 8, noon-1 p.m., Maurer Center for Public Health, second floor commons
Meet at 11:50 a.m. Register by tomorrow (March 31) by emailing Tai Hoang. Water, bananas and granola bars will be provided.

Events are sponsored by the College of Public Health’s dean’s office and research committee, student and alumni associations, the UNMC Center for Healthy Living and the University of Nebraska Foundation.
