Lookin’ at U – Adrian Koesters, Ph.D.

Adrian Koesters, Ph.D.

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Adrian Koesters, Ph.D.
  • Hometown: Baltimore
  • How long have you been at UNMC: I’ve been here since September of 2015, and I was at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for six years previously.

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC, including job title.

I work with Paula Turpen, Ph.D., Max Kuenstling and Linda Wilkie as part of the grants resources division for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. As grants editor, my primary work is editing grant research plans and journal articles for UNMC faculty. I also provide writing training for academic departments, grand rounds, and other interested groups on campus.

“Commitment to Excellence” is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us about a time you’ve seen a “commitment to excellence” at UNMC.
This is a tough one! I see this pretty well every day and often more than once a day. The research projects that come across my desk are truly awe-inspiring. I would say I’ve yet to meet anyone, in any position at UNMC, who does not display this trait in their day-to-day work.

What is your favorite spring activity?
Walking around Lake Zorinsky.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • Once upon a time I wrote a humorous advice column for an online soap opera magazine called “Miss Adrian’s Guide for Girls.”
  • I am a writer with a published book of poems, and I hope to publish a novel and a second poetry book this year.
  • I’ve lived in Nebraska for more than 30 years, and it is definitely my home.
