The Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska, an event that has raised almost $13 million for cancer research in Nebraska since its inception, is continuing its mission to provide cancer research funds during its 19th-annual event taking place June 3-4 at the Lienetics Ranch of the Trevor and Torri Lienemann family near Princeton, Neb.
About the ball
The Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska is a 501(c)(3) charity focused on ensuring that the money raised goes to cancer research and local health and wellness programs for which it is intended. Over the 19-year history of the event, nearly 99 percent of the money raised has gone directly to medical research and health care programs in Nebraska.
Ninety percent of the funds raised this year will go to the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, while 10 percent will go toward local health initiatives and organizations in southeastern Nebraska.
This year’s ball also features a unique auction item to be sold prior to the event — a two-night stay at the governor’s mansion during the ball on June 3-4. To bid on this unique experience, click here and participate in the online auction.
Princeton is located about 20 miles south of Lincoln on Highway 77, making it one of the closest ball sites ever for people living in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska’s two largest cities.
“This would be a great year for people living in eastern Nebraska to check out the Cattleman’s Ball,” said Ken Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. “This is about as close as the ball will ever get to them. It’s the perfect opportunity for people who haven’t been to the ball before to check it out and see for themselves what makes this such a unique and successful event.”
Proceeds from the ball will benefit the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated facility that provides leading-edge research and patient care in Nebraska.
Ronnie Green, Ph.D., who will take over as chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on July 1, and his wife, Jane, are serving as co-chairs of this year’s Cattlemen’s Ball. Other co-chairs are Tim and DaNay Kalkowski and Will and Tory Kerns, both of Lincoln.
The event begins Friday with tours of the Nebraska Innovation Campus, a Certified Angus Beef dinner, auction and entertainment. Other Friday activities include the 2016 Cattlemen’s Ball Golf Tournament at Wilderness Ridge and tours of Homestead National Monument.
Saturday events at the Lienetics Ranch begin with a champagne breakfast and a lunch. Other activities include live and silent auctions, art and fashion shows, cattle displays, tail gates, and beer and wine tastings. Saturday evening features a prime rib dinner and concert by the legendary entertainer Clint Black.
