UNMC mobile app update brings significant changes

An update to the UNMC mobile app is now available in the Apple app store.

The app was completely rewritten from the ground up using Apple’s new state-of the-art programming language, Swift. This offers a more stable experience for users and allows for greater expansion of the app in the future.

“It was really important for us to create something that was built for speed and allows for future expansion,” said UNMC Senior Mobile App/Web Developer Todd Ashmore.

The app also has a new feature that allows you to rearrange all of the main screen icons and hide them if they aren’t pertinent to you. The app’s directory was overhauled too, making it easier to find the contact you’re looking for. You can now search by first name, last name, email address, department and title. You also can email, call, share or save a contact.

The latest update includes redesigned main screen icons and modules to give the application a more consistent look and feel throughout. The back-end server that drives the mobile app was recreated as well. This allows changes to the app content to be made quickly and gives app users a much faster experience.

“Our team is really excited that the university is interested in staying current on technology. This has been a very rewarding project, and we really hope that the community can benefit from it for years to come,” Ashmore said.

UNMC’s recently developed mobile app team within the Information Technology Services Department is available for consulting purposes on future mobile app projects at UNMC.

As an employee, I like this app. Works in android too! I was going to send it to a patient who has several appointments next week and recommend they use the "map" link but when I trialed it and tried "directions". The link went to google maps and google maps said it was an "unsupported app". I tried this for both Clarkson Tower and Orange parking and got the same result. Hope you can reconcile.
