Lookin’ at U – Dan Sanchez

Dan Sanchez

Dan Sanchez

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee.
This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Dan Sanchez
  • Hometown: Moab, Utah
  • No. of years at UNMC: 20 years

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.

I work in ITS customer support services. I set up PCs, install software and hardware, and assist the customers with computer problems. There are several departments I support, including public relations, otolaryngology-ear, nose and throat, orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation and obstetrics/gynecology. The one really good benefit of my job is I get to meet a lot of people and share a lot of great stories.

Healing is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group at UNMC be selfless in caring for another person or the community.

I have seen several instances, but here is one I recently witnessed. I heard a guest ask a nurse, who had her arms full of supplies (I didn’t get her name), for directions. I heard the nurse start to give directions, stop, then she said (not quoting exactly), “It will be my pleasure to show you the way. It will be much easier.” Then she turned the opposite direction from which she was headed and escorted the guests to their destination.

What is your favorite summer activity?

Photography, traveling and fishing.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I was a park ranger at Canyon Lands National Park in Moab Utah.
  • I was a volunteer fireman and EMT for Bellevue, when it was a volunteer department.
  • I have four beautiful granddaughters (ages 5 years to 10 months).

Great to see Dan highlighted. He is such a nice person and we sure appreciate his expertise. As busy as he is, he is always available to help us out. Even if we haven't called on him for help with our computers, he will still pass through our offices when he is nearby, just to make sure we are not having any problems.
