Four UNMC College of Nursing graduate students received awards for their work at the annual “Fall Research Day” on Nov. 9.

Brigette Soltis-Vaughon received the dean’s award for outstanding poster presentation and the College of Nursing alumni award for her research project on “Heredity, Health and Help-Seeking: Consumer Perceptions of Genetic Information.”

Melissa Kelsay and Michelle Hunter received the Gamma Pi Chapter-At-Large Sigma Theta Tau International award for their work on “The Difference in Frequency and Distress of Perimenopausal Symptoms Between Users and Nonusers of Hormone Therapy.”

Beth Kimpson received the dean’s award for best oral presentation. Her topic was on “Triggers of Independent Nursing Action’s in Cooperative Care.”

In all, there were 13 research posters on display in two rooms at the College of Nursing.
Other topics included: “Changes in Youths’ Hemoglobin A1c Values with Insulin Pump Therapy,” by Jennifer Genthe and Kristin Bertrang; “The Symptom Experience of Patients with Heart Failure,” by Sara Klein, Tiffany Johnson and Brooke Andersen.
