Accessing eldercare services event for employees Dec. 7

More than 25 percent of American families are involved in some way with elder/parent care. Many of them also are juggling full-time job responsibilities. The challenges of this can be overwhelming.

UNMC employees can learn more about caring for elderly parents, relatives and friends and the coordinated services available at UNMC, University Medical Associates (UMA) and The Nebraska Medical Center at an eldercare event on Tuesday, Dec. 7 in the Eppley Science Hall.

The “Accessing Eldercare Services and Information” event features four presentations in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater from 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., and exhibits in the UNMC Center for Continuing Education Atrium (inside the Eppley Science Hall) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The featured presentations are:


  • 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. – “The State of Nebraska Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP),” presented by Aimee McKim, Omaha-Area Director of SHIP.
  • 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. – “The Medicare Prescription Plan,” presented by Gary Yee, Pharm.D., professor of pharmacy practice, UNMC College of Pharmacy.
  • 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – “Services of Eastern Nebraska Office of Aging (ENOA),” presented by Dee Wilson, ENOA case manager.
  • 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. – “Patient Centered Care in Later Life: The Geriatric Perspective,” presented by Jane Potter, M.D., UNMC professor of geriatrics.

Exhibitors will provide information on services, adaptive equipment, referrals and/or supports groups. Below is a list of some of the participating exhibitors:
