Innovation and Research Month will be marked this October with a celebration of UNMC innovations and research, as well as opportunities to learn more about available resources. Throughout October, UNMC students, staff and faculty and members of the community are invited to join in a variety of events.

A master schedule and a downloadable list of events can be found on the Celebrating Research website.

One of the highlights of the month will be the annual Innovation Awards presented by UNeMed, UNMC’s technology transfer company. These awards include the Most Promising New Invention of 2016 and the Innovator of the Year. (More information about UNeMed events can be found here.)

On Oct. 25, a celebration of UNMC’s record high extramural research funding for 2015-2016 will take place from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Durham Research Center commons area. All faculty, staff and students are invited.

The event also will feature nationally and internationally recognized research programs.

“Research is part of UNMC and Nebraska Medicine’s mission. It distinguishes Nebraska Medicine and UNMC from other hospitals in the region,” said Jennifer Larsen, M.D., vice chancellor of research. “Research is required to dramatically change health outcomes, and it is an economic engine for the region.”
