UNMC psychiatrist Soonjo Hwang discusses what happens when people fall in love
Soonjo Hwang, M.D., an assistant professor in the department of psychiatry at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, will discuss what happens in the brain when a person is in love at the next Omaha Science Café being held at 7 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St.
Dr. Hwang specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry. He is particularly interested in pediatric populations with disruptive mood and behavior disorders.
Dr. Hwang also is a neuroscience researcher specializing in neuro-image and clinical trials. He is a board member of the institutional review board of UNMC. His clinical research collaborators have included researchers from: Boys Town National Research Hospital, the Department of Education in South Korea, the University of California San Francisco, and the National Institute of Mental Health a division of the National Institutes of Health.
Science Cafés involve a face-to-face conversation with a scientist about current science topics. They are open to everyone (21 and older) and take place in casual settings like pubs and coffeehouses. Each meeting is organized around an interesting topic of conversation. A scientist gives a brief presentation followed by a Q-and-A period.
