A retirement tea will be held for Renee Cook on March 14 from 3-5 p.m. in the University Tower Private Dining Rooms A and B.

Cook, who first came to UNMC as a temporary worker in 1976, has been the finance/program coordinator in the division of cardiology since 2007, but she has held positions in human resources, human genetics, the College of Medicine and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, where she was the program coordinator for the Minority Health Education and Research Office.

“Though I’ve been here a comparably short time, I’ve known Renee to be an outstanding accountant,” said Cook’s colleague Tom Rouse. “She’s advocated for the division on countless clinical trial negotiations, securing for us our fair financial cuts for the hard work we do. She’s also regulated and monitored our operational spending, getting us the resources we need to function day-to-day while conserving whenever possible.

“Her mark on the division will be long-lasting.”

Cook said she plans to spend retirement getting back into crafting, sewing, gardening and bowling.

“I have worked with some wonderful people here at UNMC and learned a lot from them and will always cherish that,” she said.
